Ah, the stories I have told...

This collection of stories includes my earliest work, originally published by our local newspaper in 1996 as an occasional column, and then continued online with new stories in my first Internet "blog" in 1998. I called it "Notebooks of a Digital Naturalist," and in many ways, this website is a culmination of those early experiments and experiences.

As a kick-off to this website, I offer a new story, "In the Halls of the Geek Gods," building upon my personal backstory as I describe my academic education in computer science and geek culture.

Enjoy!

R.I.P.: The MossCam

This is the story of the "world famous" MossCam....

In the Halls of the Geek Gods

August 1, 2021

I remember the time when several colleagues started calling me "Geek God," not out of ego or self-proclaimed nerd speak, but because everyone in our lab took the official 1999 "Geek Test" at www.innergeek.us.

Digitize or Die

July 1, 2022

As I approach my 70th year, I'm compelled by the urge to digitize my life. My granddaughter just turned 8, my son and daughter are in their late 30s, and any future interactions with them should be possible as a digital avatar once I'm gone.

Notebook of a Digital Naturalist

1996 and 1998

The first 12 stories were published in the Idyllwild Town Crier in 1996 then followed by 9 more on my web-log in 1998.
